Wonder-ful activities for your classroom
|
The story Wonder is a favorite among children and young adults. If you are trying to think of some ways to incorporate this story into your classroom, think no more! Use these activities to further inspire your children to truly make a difference in the world.
Use Wonder during your writing time. Have them choose between these three writing assignments: A research paper about Auggie's disease (manibulofacial dysostosis), an awareness essay concerning bullying in schools, or a narrative piece about what they would/should do if they saw another student being bullied. |

Social Studies
At this age, students are beginning to learn about the government, laws, and politics. Have your students research national or state laws that are specific to the accommodation of students with disabilities in an educational or social setting. The students can work individually, in pairs, or in groups. Once they find their research, have them put together a small presentation about their findings. They can present this to their class during their social studies block.

Mathematics

Have your students do a survey about experiencing bullying. Once the survey is complete, the students will collect the date to create graphs and charts. The graphs and charts are not limited to bar graphs, line graphs, and pie charts. They can display these charts outside or inside of the classroom and begin discussions about preventing bullying.
