what is bullying?
Bullying: v. to use superior strength or influence to intimidate (someone), typically to force him or her to do what one wants.
There are many different kinds of bullying: physical, verbal, social, and cyber.
In Wonder, August experienced both social bullying (through the game of The Plague), as well as physical bullying when he was on his class field trip. August experienced this bullying due to his Treacher-Collins syndrome. Kids in Auggie's school did not want to touch, talk-to, or even look in Auggie's direction due to the way his face looks. This book teaches readers that it is not okay, no matter what the situation is, to bully or exclude ANYONE because they are different.

www.stopbullying.org If you ever come across anyone being bullied, do something to step in. It is important to remember that every word that we say has the ability to hurt people. We must make bullying come to an end. “I wish every day could be Halloween. We could all wear masks all the time. Then we could walk around and get to know each other before we got to see what we looked like under the masks.” -R.J. Palacio |
